Hello, my name is Alexandria Moczygemba
and I was just accepted into the Special Education major last spring at the
University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Although I claim Nashville as my hometown,
that is actually no longer where my family resides. However, it is where I
spent the majority of my youth and greatly influenced my growth, therefore, I
think it is still accurate to say that it is where I am from.
Education is a large part of my
background, and not merely because I have attended school throughout my life. I
have a multitude of relations who have joined the teaching profession,
including both my mother and brother. While this career has been prevalent in
my life, it was not, originally, what I came to this school seeking to major
in. Joining what seemed almost like a family legacy was not something I wanted
to do merely because it was expected of me or because it was what numerous
others had done. As a result, I attempted a couple of other majors and I was
always frustrated when they never quite seemed to fit. Eventually, I realized
that simply because it is a piece of my heritage, this does not denote a lack
of ability for me to choose teaching as my own profession. It is an occupation
in which, not only can I assist others in growing and learning, but one in
which I can as well. Moreover, through the experience that I have had, both in
the distant and recent past, I came to the conclusion that I have a particular
passion for teaching students with special needs.
In regard to interesting facts, I have
had a perpetual love of languages through the entirety of my life. In high
school I took four years of Spanish and two years of Latin and since attending
university, I have taken two years of Chinese and a single year of French.
While they have each been interesting and a pleasure to learn, Chinese has,
perhaps, been my favorite. This, I think, melds with the fact that I have
always wanted to travel. While not the least traveled individual, as I went to
China a few years ago and have visited a number of places in the US, there are
still quite a few areas I desire to see.
Any other tidbits of information about
me are all quite random. For example, I have been on a submarine, but it was
when I was very, very small, so I do not remember much of anything.
Furthermore, for a few weeks of my life I refused to eat anything aside from
toast; I was not even ill at the time. Lastly, as I have strong enjoyment of
reading, I brought an entire suitcase filled with books to my dorm room
freshmen year of college.
